POLICE have given the Telegraph & Argus further official information amid social media speculation around a hit-and-run victim's injuries.
West Yorkshire Police is on the hunt for a driver after a 17-year-old pedestrian was left in a critical condition following a crash in Halifax Road, Bradford last night.
It involved a vehicle that failed to stop.
Upsetting images of the aftermath of the incident have been circulating online.
The T&A has chosen not to publish these images but asked police for more details of the nature of the victim's injuries.
Police responded by stating that the 17-year-old man has suffered life-changing injuries.
At 8.25pm, officers in a marked car spotted a vehicle on the opposite carriageway in Halifax Road which was believed to be travelling above the speed limit.
"As the patrol car turned around to the opposite carriageway, the suspect vehicle was now out of sight," said police.
"Officers then located a pedestrian on Halifax Road who had been hit by the suspect vehicle which had failed to stop at the scene."
This was close to the Tesco Superstore in the area.
The 17-year-old man was rushed to hospital where he remains in a critical condition.
The road is still closed today whilst police investigations are carried out.
Enquiries are ongoing to locate the driver of the vehicle.
The police spokesperson said: "A voluntary referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct has been made."
Anyone who witnessed the collision, or may have dash cam footage of the vehicle, is asked to contact police via 101, or using the contact options on the West Yorkshire Police website.
