POLICE are hunting a driver after a teenager was left in a critical condition after a hit-and-run.
West Yorkshire Police said that at 8.25pm on Halifax Road, officers in a marked car spotted a vehicle on the opposite carriageway which was believed to be travelling above the speed limit.
They added: "As the patrol car turned around to the opposite carriageway, the suspect vehicle was now out of sight.
"Officers then located a pedestrian on Halifax Road who had been hit by the suspect vehicle which had failed to stop at the scene."
This was close to the Tesco Superstore in the area.
A 17-year-old male suffered serious injuries in the crash.
He was rushed to hospital where he remains in a critical condition.
There was a huge emergency services response to the collision last night and a cordon was in place.
The road is still closed this morning whilst police investigations are carried out.
Enquiries are ongoing to locate the driver of the vehicle.
The police spokesperson said: "A voluntary referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct has been made."

At 20.25 yesterday evening (16 September) a marked police car sighted a vehicle on the opposite carriageway believed to be travelling above the speed limit on Halifax Road, Bradford.
As the patrol car turned around to the opposite carriageway, the suspect vehicle was now out of sight.
Officers then located a pedestrian on Halifax Road who had been hit by the suspect vehicle which had failed to stop at the scene.
A 17-year-old male suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital where he remains in a critical condition.
The road is currently closed whilst police investigations are carried out.
