A WOMAN who says she was sent “flying through the air” when she was knocked over by an e-bike has called for tighter regulations on such machines.

The Bradford woman was exercising her dog on the Spen Valley Greenway, on the stretch between Low Moor and Cleckheaton, when she was knocked to the ground.

She says she suffered a 3-4cm head wound which had to be glued together by a paramedic, and other cuts and bruises all over her body. She also has a groin strain which may take longer to heal, and has had time off work.

“He rang his bell, but within a second he had hit me," said Christine, 57.

“He knocked me clean off my feet, in the air, and I landed on my head.

"It just happened so quickly.”

She said the man stopped and tried to help her up, but blood was pouring out of her head wound. He did leave his details, she said.

In a heartfelt warning to other walkers and greenway users, Christine said: “Something should be done about it - and people need to be aware of how fast these things go and what damage they can actually cause.”

“It’s put me off walking my dog on there."

A couple who witnessed the accident helped Christine get home.

“The couple were with their son who actually saw me flying through the air," she said.

Christine phoned the police and claimed they “didn’t really want to know” and told her to get medical attention.

“When I rang the police back they had no log of the call so I had to repeat everything – bearing in mind I’d had what to me was like a road traffic accident."

Christine said she was told it was a civil matter and added: "I have spoken to a solicitor who has said that because these bikes are unregulated and uninsured, it is a civil matter."

West Yorkshire Police confirmed the force received a report at 6.30pm on August 30 of an e-bike in collision with a pedestrian.

The spokesperson said: "It happened at 3.50pm on August 30."
