A jury in the case of four pro-Palestine campaigners accused of smashing up the headquarters of a weapons manufacturer in Shipley is deliberating its verdict for a second day.

Saeed Najam Shah, 51, Daniel Jones, 29, Ruby Hamill, 20, and Julian Alan Gao, 20, are all charged with criminal damage and having articles with intent to destroy/damage property, namely a quantity of sledgehammers, crowbars, and an adapted fire extinguisher on April 2 this year.

The jury at Bradford Crown Court was sent home yesterday after deliberating for almost five hours. It returned to court today at 10.30am and was sent out again by Her Honour Judge Sophie McKone.

At the quartet’s trial, which began last week (Sept 3), the court was shown video footage of the them using sledgehammers and crowbars to wreck the roof of Teledyne Defence & Space in Shipley.

The court heard that the four targeted Teledyne, a company based at Airedale House in Acorn Park, Shipley, as it provides components for the defence and aerospace industries.

Shah, of Reedley Road, Reedley, Burnley, Jones, of Rossett Road, Crosby, Sefton, Hamill, of Emu Road, Wandsworth, London, and Gao, of Dalton Ellis Hall, Manchester, sat in the dock wearing traditional Palestinian keffiyeh scarves.

The public benches were filled with supporters who have also been visible outside court with banners and placards.
