TWO men have been charged with death by dangerous driving more than a year after a young mother died in a crash in Baildon.
Amber Deakin, 18, of Windhill in Shipley, was the passenger in a silver Vauxhall Vectra which flipped over and crashed on Baildon Road (B6151), near its junction with Pasture Road, at 11.47pm on January 3, 2023.
A witness said the vehicle came off the road and flipped into a position where it meant the car's roof hit a wall first.
The collision provoked a major response from emergency services and a number of people were rushed to hospital.
Amber - mum to 16-month old son Junior at the time - was confirmed to have died by West Yorkshire Police the day after the crash.
Five others were treated for injuries sustained in the collision.
West Yorkshire Police provided an update on the investigation into the crash this evening.
Jordan Spalding, 23, of Wharncliffe Crescent, in Ravenscliffe and Shakeel Ahmed, 28, of Moresby Road, in Bradford, have both been charged with causing death by dangerous driving in relation to the fatal crash.
They have been bailed to appear at Bradford and Keighley Magistrates' Court on October 8.
Amber’s mum, Hayley Norton, of Windhill in Shipley, spoke to the Telegraph & Argus last January to pay tribute to her daughter.
She said the pair were close and more like best friends.
Ms Norton said: “She was always larger than life, full of life, really outgoing and a right character.
“She was really caring and had a big heart.”
She added: “She was larger than life, a great daughter and a really good mum - even though she was young, she was doing amazing.”
As well as her son, Amber left behind three siblings – younger brothers Blake and Bailey, and older sister Holly.
Ms Norton said Blake, 5, adored Amber, who will be really missed by him, while tragically Bailey celebrated his 15th birthday two days after his sister's death.
She added: “She loved enjoying life with her friends when she had time off from the baby and she also loved spending every penny she had on him.
“Her dream was to be a good mum and she loved it.”
