A CHILD rapist from Slovakia has been jailed after he carried out a shocking sexual attack on a vulnerable elderly woman while she was in a private cubicle at Bradford Royal Infirmary.
A court heard today (Tues) how drug-using schizophrenic Peter Dzudza, 28, had been “staying” in the hospital because he was “homeless and cold”, but while he was there earlier this year he targeted his victim as she was sleeping.
Prosecutor Rebecca Young told Bradford Crown Court that the woman, who must not be identified for legal reasons, had been admitted as a patient to the accident and emergency department and after having an X-ray she was put into a private cubicle to await a consultation and treatment.
The woman was sat upright in bed and falling asleep when she became aware that someone had entered the cubicle.
“She opened her eyes and saw the defendant put his finger to his mouth and say shush,” said Miss Young.
Dzudza then kissed the woman on the mouth and put his hand inside her dressing gown fondling her left breast over her nightie.
Miss Young said the victim was frightened and confused and she was unable to reach a panic alarm button on the wall behind her.
After she asked Dzudza who he was, the defendant stroked her arm and shoulder as if to calm her down.
Miss Young said Dzudza then kissed the woman again and repeated his behaviour fondling her right breast.
When the woman screamed for help Dzudza fled the room and hospital CCTV footage later captured him sat in a corridor watching porn on his mobile phone and masturbating.
Dzudza, of no fixed abode, was arrested by police two days after the incident and claimed during his interview that he had been “staying” at the hospital.
The court heard today that back in February this year, Dzudza had been convicted of common assault and was on bail awaiting sentence for that crime when he committed the offence at the hospital.
Back in 2011 when he was just 15 himself, Dzudza was sentenced to 20 months in a young offenders institution in Slovakia after he raped a boy aged under 13.
Dzudza pleaded guilty at an earlier crown court hearing to sexually assaulting the woman at the hospital and today he was jailed for 27 months.
Dzudza expressed an apology to his victim over a prison video link during the hearing and his barrister Paul Canfield said his client had sworn he would never do anything like it again.
“He intends upon release to return back to Slovakia and find accommodation with his father,” said Mr Canfield.
Jailing Dzudza, Recorder Sam Green KC said he had targeted an injured woman in a private cubicle at the hospital.
“You entered that private cubicle uninvited and told her to be quiet,” said the judge.
The judge said Dzudza had been so excited by his assault on the woman that he was later seen watching porn and masturbating.
“In my judgement this was akin to, and no better than, entering someone’s home uninvited because she was in a private cubicle lying helpless and you went in there with no permission to do so,” said Recorder Green.
He said the complainant had been traumatised and still suffered flashbacks and she was now frightened of being admitted to hospital again in case she encountered another “pervert” like Dzudza.
The judge explained that Dzudza would have been jailed for three years after a trial, but his guilty plea meant his sentence was reduced to 27 months.
Because Dzudza has been remanded in custody since his arrest he was told he may be released after serving a further nine months behind bars.
Recorder Green imposed an indefinite sexual harm prevention order and a restraining order which bans Dzudza from entering hospital unless he is in need of urgent medical treatment or has an appointment.
Dzudza will now have to register as a sex offender with the police for next 10 years due to the length of his jail sentence.
