Northern is looking for 'office influencers' to convince their colleagues to sign up to its season ticket scheme, with the incentive that it will boost their 'street cred' with peers.

The train operator, which is the district's biggest and which runs services on the Airedale, Wharfedale, and Calder Valley lines, believes these 'influencers' can be instrumental in promoting their Employee Season Tickets scheme.

The annual tickets provide the equivalent of 12 weeks of free travel (compared to five Anytime Day Returns), and can be paid for monthly, with interest-free instalments deducted directly from salaries.

Mark Powles, commercial and customer director at Northern, said: "Every workplace has its influencers and what better way for them to raise their ‘street cred’ with their colleagues than by bagging them 12 weeks free travel to work.

"We’re always looking for ways to encourage people to make the transition from road to rail – and if we can convince those with clout among their peers to sign-up and spread the word, we’re confident others will follow."

The operator says that the scheme not only helps to reduce commuting costs, but also promotes sustainable travel and reduces the region's carbon footprint.
