PLANS to re-open the Richard Dunn Centre as an Olympic level skate park would require “significant investment” – Bradford Council has warned.

On Friday the 20th Century Society revealed a possible future use for the leisure centre – which was shut in 2019.

They suggested the building could be re-purposed into a centre featuring skate facilities along with space for other sports including BMX and bouldering.

The organisation worked with Ian Chalk Architects to draw up the plans, which have been suggested to owners Bradford Council – currently weighing up the future of the building and wider site.

Bradford Council has now responded to the plans. A spokesperson said: “The 20th century society is obviously very inspired by the original building.

“They have submitted the plans to us as part of our review of the wider site, but it goes without saying that any developer interested in the site would have to demonstrate not just vision but significant investment to develop the site successfully.

“When it was operational, it was one of the most expensive buildings in the council estate to run. At this stage the proposal doesn’t include any costings or any funding commitments from any partners as far as we can see.”
