A BRADFORD bakery which is considered to be "very important" to the community is hoping to taste success in a contest.

The T&A recently launched its Best Bakery 2024 competition, with readers invited to share their favourite businesses.

They certainly rose to the occasion as nominations came in thick and fast.

Nominations were made through our online voting platform and were subsequently whittled down to the final 10.

One of those in the running for the top title is Halls Bakery on High Street, Wibsey.

Darren Hall, director of Halls Bakery and Confectionery Ltd, spoke of his joy at the news.

"We are absolutely chuffed to bits to make it into the top 10 of this competition," he told the T&A.

"This is a fantastic opportunity to show more people what we are capable of - and we hope many more people will try us out.

"We sell a wide selection of freshly-made hot and cold sandwiches, pastries, cakes and sweets.

"We also do outside catering which has taken off quite well this year.

"I would like to think the bakery is very important to the local community."

Darren said the bakery opened in June last year and was a popular business in the area.

He added: "The atmosphere working here is great - all our staff get on really well and enjoy their jobs.

"We have three full-time staff - Belinda, Lilian Julie - and a part-time worker called Harley.

"They enjoy conversing with our loyal customers."

Nigel Burton, T&A editor, said: "The Bradford district is filled with brilliant bakeries.

"From traditional pies, pasties and sausage rolls, to mouth-watering sweet treats and freshly baked loaves of bread, bakers across Bradford always rise to the occasion."

Don't miss out on your chance to shout up for your favourite bakery as part of our contest.

It really couldn't be simpler to vote for the establishment you think should win.

All you need to do is fill out the voting form, which can be found in the T&A.

The voting coupon will run in the newspaper until September 14, so there is plenty of opportunity to make sure the bakery you think is the best is in with a chance of taking the top spot.
