REMOVING “unauthorised” signs will help restore the historical significance of a Conservation Area building, planners have agreed.
This summer, a planning application to restore the front of the furniture store at the corner of Peel Square and Lumb Lane in Manningham was submitted to Bradford Council by Mazher Iqbal.
In recent years several modern signs have been installed on the 1850s, Grade II-listed building.
Windows have been blocked off and wooden framed doors and windows have been replaced with aluminium frames.
The application to restore the building’s frontage came after Bradford Council issued an enforcement notice demanding the building be restored to its original state.
The listed building consent application to carry out the work has now been approved by the council.
Conservation officers said: “The proposed works are justifiable to support the commercial use of the building and are proportionate, reducing the existing clutter that detracts from the historical significance of the heritage asset.”
