A WOMAN from West Yorkshire allegedly contacted police with a hoax that a bomb was situated in Buckingham Palace.
Diane Durham, 62, of Church Lane, in Pudsey, appeared at Leeds Magistrates’ Court last Thursday.
She faces a charge of bomb hoax – communicate false information.
The 62-year-old did not enter a plea.
It is alleged that Durham contacted the Metropolitan Police from her home address and told the force there was “a thing liable to explode or ignite” present in Buckingham Palace on May 17 this year, according to court records.
The accusation includes details that Durham allegedly knew or believed this claim to be incorrect and that her intention was to induce “false belief” that there was a bomb in the palace.
Princess Anne, the Princess Royal, hosted a charity garden party at Buckingham Place on the day of the alleged offence.
This was in support of the Not Forgotten Association - tri-service charity for ex-service men and women with disabilities or illness, and serving personnel who are wounded, injured or sick - as part of an annual event that has run since 1921.
Durham was remanded on unconditional bail for a plea hearing at the same court on October 10.
