A senior nurse from Bradford is taking on the Great North Run for charity.
Bradford Royal Infirmary's acting cardiology matron, Leanne Baziw, will tackle the 13.1 mile route through the streets of Tyneside on September 8.
Ms Baziw, 35, said: "I only took up running last June (2023) as I needed a bit of an outlet from the stresses of work and to do something positive for my mental wellbeing.
"Up until then I would never have considered myself a runner but now I am, I love it.
"Before last year, I’d never have imagined I’d be running a half marathon, but now I can’t wait, as I’ve heard that it’s a nice route and there’s a great atmosphere at the Great North Run - so I’m looking forward to it.
"My longest run to date has been 7.5 miles so I am aiming to up it a mile a week so this week I will run 8.5 miles."
The mum-of-two is raising funds for Bradford Hospitals Charity's Sunshine Fund.
Bradford Hospitals Charity supports Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust with equipment, training, and research.
