WORK will start on a major road entering Bradford city centre this coming week.

The latest Future Bradford newsletter highlights three areas of improvements made recently.

These include a set of overnight works and new wayfinding signage across the city centre.

Overnight work on Leeds Road

A period of overnight work will start tomorrow on the inbound section of Leeds Road, near the Broadway Shopping Centre.

This work, which will facilitate the realignment of a kerb line to widen areas for the new cycleway, is set to be complete by Monday, September 9.

Project bosses say it is taking place overnight to avoid disruption to bus routes during the day.

Access to the Broadway car park will still be possible, however there will be a short diversion in place from 11:30pm to 5:00am each day.

New wayfinding signage

More paving has been laid and the new raised planter unit on Bank Street is almost complete and will be ready for planting during planting season between autumn 2024 and summer 2025.

Balfour Beatty have installed new wayfinding signs following recommendations from an independent accessibility audit of the project’s working locations and temporary pedestrian routes.

The new signage is temporary, and aims to help guide people along the temporary pedestrian routes to key locations in the city centre. The wayfinding signs will be in place across 11 key routes.

Change to the permitted service and residential vehicles route

Also from this week, the route into the core of the city centre for permitted service and residential vehicles will see a slight change as work progresses near Hall Ings and Norfolk Gardens.

The new route, will see the entry point moved from Bridge Street to Bank Street via Leeds Road.
