A STEAM train is set to operate over the famous Settle & Carlisle line this weekend.
The special train, which has sold out, will pick up passengers at Hull, York, and Wakefield Kirkgate on its way to Carlisle on Saturday.
A heritage diesel - a Class 47/57 - will haul the train from Hull to Carnforth, where steam locomotive 34067 'Tangmere' will take over for the journey to Carlisle and then over the scenic Settle & Carlisle route. At Hellifield, north of Skipton, a diesel loco will replace the steam engine for the trip back to Hull.
The tour, which is named the Settle & Carlisle Steam Special, is being promoted by Northern Belle and operated by West Coast Railways.
'Tangmere' is a Battle of Britain class locomotive, completed at the Southern Railway’s Brighton works in September 1947.
RailTime Trains says the train is scheduled to pass Brighouse at 8.45am, but will be diesel-hauled at that stage.
Under steam-power, it is then scheduled to cross the iconic Ribblehead Viaduct at about 4.30pm, arriving at Hellifield shortly before 5pm. Times are subject to change.
