AN MP says the government is taking a "crucial first step toward rebuilding our local NHS here in Bradford" after it provided a hospital with £50 million in funding.

Lynfield Mount is a mental health hospital on Heights Lane in Daisy Hill and is run by the Bradford District Care NHS Foundation Trust (BDCT).

The trust has secured funding from the Department of Health and Social Care to redevelop the site.

The new facility has been co-created with staff, service users, families, and stakeholders to create a therapeutic and recovery-focused environment that is designed to meet the evolving needs of patients, staff, and partners across the district, said BDCT.

Work will be carefully planned over a three-year period and is expected to start on-site in 2025.

During that time, Lynfield Mount will remain fully operational to ensure continuity of care for all patients.

MP: Services vital given 'rising levels of mental health and deprivation in our community'

Naz Shah, Labour MP for Bradford West, said: "I am grateful to the government for providing £50 million of capital funding towards Lynfield Mount Hospital in my constituency, a funding application which I supported.

"During the election, Health Secretary Wes Streeting came to Bradford and pledged his support towards the local NHS.

"I am delighted that the government is already delivering on this promise, taking a crucial first step toward rebuilding our local NHS here in Bradford.

"The services provided at Lynfield Mount Hospital are vital, especially given the rising levels of mental health and deprivation in our community.

"The redevelopment of this building will create a positive patient environment with new and improved standards of care.

"Supporting investment in the local NHS services was one of my key pledges during my election campaign and I am determined to continue working with the government to rebuild our NHS locally."

Bradford Council Leader: It's long overdue

Cllr Susan Hinchcliffe, Leader of Bradford Council, said: “I’m delighted that Lynfield Mount has been awarded this investment.  It’s long overdue.

"It’s absolutely right that mental health services be treated with the same importance as physical health. Lynfield Mount is in desperate need of redevelopment.

"Alongside the expected investment in the new hospital at Airedale Hospital, we should now see improved facilities for patients and local communities in Bradford and Airedale going forward.”

Redeveloped site will set a 'new standard for care'

Therese Patten, chief executive at BDCT, is glad to see that the funding has been awarded.

She said: "Our buildings at Lynfield Mount Hospital have needed improvements for some time and this investment represents a welcome opportunity for us and the communities we serve.

"The redeveloped site will set a new standard for care, providing our patients with the facilities and support they need to recover and thrive as well as supporting us in being the best place to work for our staff."
