WORK to repair a retaining wall which collapsed in November, closing a busy road, will finally begin next week.

The uphill lane of the B6151 Baildon Road towards Baildon and between Otley Road and Rockcliffe Avenue will be closed to allow the work to take place safely and as quickly as possible.

Bradford Council has recently approved £75,000 worth of funding for the work, which will be carried out by a specialist contractor on behalf of the landowner.

Work will start on September and is estimated to take around eight weeks to complete.

There will be a diversion in place via Green Lane, Green Road and Cliffe Avenue. There will also be a diversion in place via the A6038 Otley Road, Woodcot Avenue, Netherhall Road and Station Road. The downhill lane of the B6151 Baildon Road towards Shipley will remain open.

The wall collapsed due to heavy rainfall during Storm Debi.

Councillor Alex Ross-Shaw, Bradford Council’s Executive Member for Regeneration, Planning and Transport said: “The work needs to be completed before winter, as the harsh weather could affect the structural integrity of the area and cause further collapses. We understand this essential work will cause disruption to road users in the area, however this will be monitored on a regular basis.”
