BRADFORD Council is proposing 20mph zones on almost 90 streets across two areas.

The local authority has announced provisional plans to introduce a 20mph speed limit throughout Heaton and Manningham.

This covers 88 streets, which includes both adopted, named roads and those that are unadopted.

One of the most prominent routes is North Park Road, which runs alongside Lister Park.

It starts at its junction with Emm Lane, which is also set to become a 20mph road up to roughly 10 metres east of the extended eastern kerb line of Marriners Drive, as well as part of Highgate.

But Oak Lane is not included in the proposal and the North Park Road zone ends approximately 55 metres north of that road.

Two other major routes included in the proposals are Park Drive and Wilmer Road.

There are plenty of residential streets on the list as well, such as Park View Terrace, Selborne Grove, Victor Road, and Leamington Street.

The move by Bradford Council is part of the Manningham Safe Neighbourhood Scheme (SNS).

The local authority said it is making the order for several reasons.

This includes to avoid danger to people or other traffic on the roads, or the likelihood of it arising and to promote and/or improve the amenities of the area through which the roads run.

It also aims to dissuade traffic on the principal roads from using residential areas to bypass congestion and reduce air pollution, noise pollution, and carbon emissions.

A number of 20mph zones were introduced in Bradford city centre back in September 2019 after a consultation.

This included most streets in the city centre, apart from larger roads such as Hall Ings, Manchester Road, and Leeds Road.

There has been much change since though, as the area continues to be transformed as part of a scheme focused on pedestrianisation.

Plans for 20mph zones in Shipley were also put out to the public in January this year.
