A BUYER has been found for a bar and beer store in the heart of Saltaire.

The Hop Star, on Bingley Road was put up for sale in March this year and has now been taken over, less than six months later.

Ernest Wilson Business Agent, which brought the bar to the market, announced the news.

The post said: “A bar, a bottle shop, and a space to enjoy a bite to eat and a game of pool - what's not to like about Hop Star?!

“A testament to its success, we were able to complete the sale of this fun and enthusiastic business within six months of it going to market.”

The sale ensures West Yorkshire continues to have “another fantastic place to try and buy ales from across the world”, according to a spokesperson for Ernest Wilson.

They added: “With brewery collaborations and in-house workshops, this little bar and beer shop in the ever-fashionable town of Saltaire was a real find when we put it on the market before Easter.”

The Hop Star situated on a bustling street, which has a row of businesses, including neighbouring The Orange Grove, an award-winning greengrocers and fishmonger, and Saltaire’s branch of artisan burger brand Rumpus.

Saltaire has become a hotspot for drinkers in recent years, with haunts including Al’s Mars Bar, Tallulah’s Wine Bar, and the imposing SALT Beer Factory, as well as long-standing establishments like Fanny’s, The Salt Cellar, and The Beehive.

The Ernest Wilson spokesperson said the Hop Star building is “larger than expected” and is split into spaces for “drinking cask ales and craft beers, eating charcuterie platters and the odd game of pool”.

It features a basement that is dedicated to a commercial kitchen and also includes a store and staff toilets.

The bar and bottle shop was presented to Ernest Wilson as “free of tie”.

The spokesperson for the business agents said, “in laymen’s terms” this means “the tenant rents the pub or bar from the landlord under a ‘market rent only (MRO) lease’”, which in turn allows them to buy beer from wherever they choose.

Ernest Wilson said 411 applicants expressed an interest in The Hop Star.

There were 17 viewings and three offers made, in total.
