A WALKER had to be airlifted to hospital after a fall in the Yorkshire Dales.
The man fell from a Norber erratic in Austwick on Monday.
The 58-year old sustained a serious ankle injury after falling off one of the glacial erratic boulders. It happened at around midday in the area known as the boulder field.
A spokesperson for the Clapham-based Cave Rescue Organisation said: " As team members arrived at the road-head, an air ambulance was circling overhead.
"Arriving at the casualty site with a team stretcher, they used it to carry the already ‘packaged’ patient to the helicopter for the flight to hospital."
The Cave Rescue Organisation spokesperson added: "Thanks to the farmer for offering off-road parking for our members’ cars."
