ALMOST one in four road users in Britain would not feel confident navigating without the help of maps, a new survey has revealed.
Private plate supplier Regtransfer's survey found that 23 per cent of road users would not be comfortable navigating without a sat nav or a road atlas.
The survey also found that only 47 per cent of road users keep a paper road atlas in their vehicle.
Meanwhile, just one third of respondents would be "very confident" using road signs to navigate their way home if they were 100 miles away with no working digital sat nav or phone, and no paper road atlas.
Mark Trimbee, CEO of Regtransfers, said: "Being able to follow traditional road signs is a vital skill that’s needed as a driver.
"I would also advise investing in a good road atlas as one of your ‘emergency provisions’ and leaving it in your car, along with a bottle of water, first aid kit, a blanket and a warning triangle."
The use of sat navs has been part of the UK’s practical driving test since December 2017, with learners expected to demonstrate that they can use a sat nav without becoming distracted.
