WORK to knock down a huge block of flats on a Bradford estate is progressing.

Demolition work on York House, on Idlethorp Way in Thorpe Edge, started earlier this week.

Jacky Harland-Waide, who lives near the site, took some pictures yesterday showing the ongoing work and shared them with the Telegraph & Argus.

Jacky said: "York House was a lovely building in the earlier years but now for some people it's a blessing it's getting demolished.

"If walls could talk what stories would be told..."

In 2022, social housing provider Incommunities announced plans to decommission the eight-storey building, and residents moved to other properties.

Last year, an application to demolish the building, which included 112 flats and a shop, was submitted.

The work is expected to be finished by the end of this year.

Graeme Scott, executive director of development and assets from Incommunities, said: "Alongside the start of the demolition of York House, we're currently preparing proposals for the future redevelopment of the site.

"Once the proposal is ready, we will consult with local residents to get their feedback and input on the plans."
