A PROPOSAL to convert a former pub in Bradford into two flats has been received by the city’s planning department.

The owner of the property, Tariq Khan, has submitted a full planning application to convert the ground floor of the former Hand & Shuttle hostelry at 48 Tong Street into two flats, each with two bedrooms.

The design and access statement, prepared by Faum Architecture, says: “It is proposed to change the use of the ground floor from the previous public house to form two two-bedroom flats.

"The majority of the external openings shall remain as existing; the proposed bathrooms shall have an obscure glazing.

“Flat one is 77sqm with flat two 88 sqm. Both flats have an open plan kitchen and living room to the front of the flat with bedroom to the rear of the flat. The current level access is unchanged.

“Parking is available to the side and rear of the property.

“The design process has been through a thorough, rigorous process of critical analysis and has discussed a host of factors and parameters outlined in this and other supporting documentation.

“The submission material demonstrates how the proposal has addressed these factors and aims to maintain the historical nature of the existing dwelling with this much needed addition.

“In doing so, the design team has demonstrated the sensitivity of the proposal and the consideration which has been afforded to the local community in terms of visual amenity, massing impact, in delivering the requirements of the client brief.

“We trust, based on the above, that the proposal will be deemed as exciting and stimulating for the local and wider community.”

The closing date for comments on the application is September 5.
