CELEBRATIONS have been held to mark the official reopening of a Bradford youth centre which has undergone a "major" refurbishment.

A fun-filled family event - which included an inflatable assault course, a bouncy castle, a tombola and stalls - took place at the revamped Buttershaw Youth Centre on Reevy Road today.

Bradford South MP Judith Cummins helped to formally reopen the centre.

She said: "Buttershaw Youth Centre looks simply fantastic.

"Congratulations to everyone involved in making these renovations happen.

"This work has breathed new life into a wonderful local space that will be enjoyed by young people and the whole community for years to come."

A spokesperson from Buttershaw Youth Centre thanked everyone for their support.

"The centre was originally built in the 1960s then extended in the 80s, and the recent improvements make it better placed to manage increasing energy costs with a rewire, new windows, new doors, lowered ceilings and a heat pump," they added.

The centre includes sessions giving young people skills in making cheap but nutritious meals.

It also provides a base offering bike maintenance skills, a boxing club, a breakfast club and a cafe.

The company brsk has provided broadband to the centre for free and also funded a public defibrillator for the facility.
