A CHERISHED pet parrot has gone missing after flying away from home in the Spencer Road area of Bradford.

Molly the African Grey took to the skies when a loud noise scared her out of the house where she lives, near the Field Sports and Social Club on Hollingwood Lane.

Molly, aged 18, escaped on Wednesday, August 14, at 3.25pm, and the family are appealing for people to help find the timid parrot. They say she screams like a girl when distressed.

Zara Mahmood, who is helping search for her sister’s pet, said: “I was upstairs in my room when it happened...she was in the house but outside her cage. She usually sits outside her cage. She got scared and flew towards the open door and flew into the field behind our house.”

The family rushed to the field behind their garden, but couldn’t get through the undergrowth to find out where Molly had gone. After several days of searching, they are worried that Molly has disappeared out of her home territory.

Molly’s owner, Uzhma, said: “We are heartbroken. She could possibly be near Great Horton Road Tesco as she can possibly fly anywhere.

“She is currently suffering from plucking feathers issues which has been seen by the vets and she was on the road to recovery.

“She doesn’t have any feathers on the chest as seen in the pictures and is quite scared of things. She can’t fly much so if seen please pick her up in a towel or something.”

Zara said that Molly responds to whistling, or the command ‘come here’. She also likes the sound of rustling crisp packets and enjoys eating grapes.

“She says ‘hello’ and makes whistling noises,” said Zara.

“She gets exhausted fast with flying and she drops down if she is tired,” said Zara, who advises using a towel or blanket to pick her up.

“She screams like a human girl if she is distressed or if she is caught in something.”
