IT’S the end of an era in Thorpe Edge as demolition work gets underway at landmark tower block York House.
These remarkable images were taken by Donald Oliver from the T&A Camera Club - who once lived in the eight-storey block of 112 flats.
A spokesperson for social housing provider Incommunities said the work is expected to be completed towards the end of this year.
Donald lived at No 1 York House. He said: "There were hot water pipes running under the floor. They were the pipes that supplied the central heating to all the flats.
"This was great in winter - warm floor under foot. Unfortunately, during summer, it was stiflingly hot, so I had to keep all windows open. Like everything we made the best of it."
