A COMMUNITY has been left shocked after a young man was stabbed in the back with a machete near a park.

West Yorkshire Police was called to Newlands Way, in the Ravenscliffe estate, Bradford at 3.39pm yesterday.

This was behind Eccleshill Community Hospital and close to Eccleshill Park.

A man had been stabbed during a fight with another man, according to a spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police.

They added: "The victim, a 20-year-old man, received a wound to the back when he was struck with a machete."

Yorkshire Ambulance Service (YAS) received an emergency call at 3.41pm to the area.

A spokesperson said: "Ambulance resources attended the scene and one patient was conveyed to hospital."

This was for treatment to serious injuries, that are not life-threatening.

Members of the public responded in shock on social media and people said police were going door to door asking for CCTV, with a cordon in place where the stabbing happened.

One resident, who wished to remain anonymous, said: "We was in the back garden and heard a load of commotion, next thing you know about 20 lads walk round the corner most with shirts around their heads as balaclavas.

"I’ve gone up to have a look, turns out someone had knifed him in the back, police and ambulance arrived quick at the scene."

He added: "It’s not ideal my kids play in that park, it just doesn’t feel safe to let them go there anymore."

An investigation has been launched and detectives from Bradford District CID are carrying out enquiries into the stabbing.

Police have appealed for information from the public.
