A MAN has been jailed and handed a restraining order for threatening a woman.

Callum Roberts, 25, who is currently in HMP Leeds, in Armley pleaded guilty to using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour to cause harassment, alarm or distress and sending by public communication network an offensive, indecent, obscene, or menacing message or matter at Bradford and Keighley Magistrates' Court on May 29.

He was sentenced at the same court on July 31.

The 23-year-old, who is already serving time behind bars, threatened a woman on October 14 last year in the Keighley area, according to court records.

He also sent a message that was grossly offensive or of an indecent, obscene or menacing character that same day.

Roberts was sentenced to 18 weeks in prison in total for both offences.

The court also imposed a restraining order in relation to two named individuals.

He must not contact them directly or indirectly and is banned from visiting two addresses in Keighley.

This lasts until a further order is made.

Court records said a custodial sentence was passed because of Roberts's "previous antecedent history" and as he is a "serving prisoner".

He was also ordered to pay £85 in costs.
