Move over Skyfall, because this stone cottage by the water’s edge in the Yorkshire Dales (which goes by the name of 'Skyfell') has been named among the top lakeside stays in the UK.
Located at the breathtaking Grimwith Reservoir in Hebden, Skyfell was praised by The Times for “supplying an instant sense of rugged, windswept isolation”.
Introducing the travel guide, The Times revealed: “What is it about our lakes, lochs and reservoirs? Put a Brit in front of one and suddenly they go all gooey.
"Or as the poet William Wordsworth once put it: 'A lake carries you into recesses of feeling otherwise impenetrable' — and, he might have added, leaves you wishing you could stay. That’s what he did. After settling near the little Cumbrian lake of Grasmere in 1799, he made his home there, or thereabouts, for the next 51 years.
"So it’s no wonder these sudden oases of light and space are also home to some of our loveliest holiday accommodation."
@shewalksinengland This is one of my favourite reservoirs to walk around in Yorkshire. Its very easy, and feels wonderfully remote. 📍Grimwith Reservoir, Yorkshire Dales National Park. Distance: 4 miles Time: 1h20min #yorkshiredalesnationalpark #easywalks ♬ september slowed - mar 🪼
"And here to prove it are 25 hotels, B&Bs and self-catering stays to leave you purring. Most, for obvious reasons, are in the Lake District and Scotland, but not all.
"It doesn’t take a particularly large body of water to loosen those tight little knots in our minds. All we really need is a rustling reed bed and an acre or two or reflected sky, and there are plenty of those further south."

What did The Times say about Skyfell in Hebden?
The publisher wrote: “No, it’s not quite Skyfall. But James Bond would recognise the similarities instantly.
“Here, a big knobbly-stoned house sits at the water’s edge at Grimwith Reservoir and supplies an instant sense of rugged, windswept isolation.
“Inside, there are comforts aplenty: two of the bedrooms have freestanding baths and there’s a wood-burning stove in the big kitchen-diner.
“But step outdoors and the world is raw and magnificent. Malham Cove is a 19-mile drive westwards. Deep and beautiful Nidderdale is just to the east. Big moorland walks begin on the doorstep.”

A guest who stayed at the lakeside house in the Dales said it was “absolutely amazing”.
Their review on Tripadvisor added: “We rented this property for my husbands 60th and we weren't disappointed.
“This cottage is absolutely amazing. Every room has its own touch of luxury. Master bedroom is out of this world. Kitchen is equipped with your every need. Hot tub was heated by logs which plenty are provided and 6 people can fit in comfortably.

“Cottage is located right on the edge of reservoir and every room had an amazing view.
“We all were disappointed we had to leave. I would definitely return.
“If your staying for a week I would maybe arrange to get your shopping dropped off when you arrive as the road to the cottage isn't the best to be travelling every day up and down on unless you have a 4x4 but this didn't put us off at all as its well worth it.”
