A YOUNG woman is thrilled to have taken over her local long-standing Bradford pub.
Jodie Barnett is the new landlady at the The Greenwood Inn, on Bierley Lane.
The 20-year-old does not see her age as a barrier having taken on the lease following a stint in the betting industry and previous jobs working behind bars.
She had been a regular at The Greenwood Inn for much of her life and feels it is a dream come true to now be behind the bar permanently.
"It has always been my passion. I have always been brought up in pubs," she told the Telegraph & Argus.
"My grandad used to take us down at the weekends.
"I did a bit of bar work but when Covid happened, the pubs shut so I ended up working at Betfred for two years.
"I heard this pub, which is my local, was up for a new lease so I thought I would give it a go."
And she has done just that, opening on Saturday, August 3 to great fanfare.
Punters enjoyed a performance from acoustic singer Dylan Brierley followed by 'Topless Tommy' on the decks at the opening night.
Bingo and karaoke was then put on a day later to give customers even more variety.
Jodie said: "It has gone really well. It has had a nice refurb and is smelling fresh. Everyone is loving it.
"It was absolutely packed (on opening night). It was amazing. Great atmosphere."
Since taking over, Jodie has had the place refurbished with new carpets, paint, and fabric on the seats.
When the Telegraph & Argus visited the pub, there was a fresh feel to the place.
The bar has been recently furnished and new lights had been installed.
The kitchen facility is also currently having work done on it so should be open in a couple of months.
Asked what the pub has to offer, Jodie added: "Our prices are cheap.
"We have got lager, Guinness, and John Smiths. We also have a large variety of spirits and bottles.
"We have got Sky Sports and customer Wi-Fi too."
The Greenwood Inn's opening hours are as follows: Monday, Tuesday (12-11pm), Wednesday (12-11.30pm),Thursday 12-11pm Friday and Saturday 12-12.30 Sunday 12 – 11.30pm.
