BRADFORD Council has admitted it did not carry out work to a "satisfactory standard" to fix a paving slab after a pensioner seriously injured herself in a fall.
Maureen Randle, 83, went to hospital as she sustained heavy facial injuries and grazes to her arms, elbow, and knees following the fall.
Maureen had been on her way back from church when she took a tumble on Hirst Lane in Shipley.
The council said it was sorry to hear about Maureen’s fall and hoped she was on the road to recovery.
"It (the paving slab) was about an inch too high on one side and I just fell against the wall," Mrs Randle.
"I scraped all my arms, elbows and knees. There was so much blood.
"I went home and over the next few days all the bruises and black eye came out.
"I went to the hospital because I had seriously banged my head. I did not know if I had concussion.
"The hospital was very concerned and did lots of X-rays.
"It was a very nasty fall, I got bruised ribs and muscles torn.
"They just said go home. I then thought I should do something about this."
Mrs Randle decided to put a report into the council asking them if it could fix the paving slab.
She added: "They (the slabs) are absolutely uneven and very dangerous near there.
"Somebody will fall over them and go through the same thing that I went through."
The council's answer was to put a white cross on the slab and lay some cement underneath it.
Mrs Randle said: "All they had done was make it look less threatening. It is still a hazard.
"It was just a quick fix which wasn’t a fix at all."
Bradford Council says following the report, officers inspected the area and work was carried out.
However a reinspection showed the works had not been done to standard.
Officers will "rectify the issue" in the next week.
In response to Mrs Randle's claims, a Bradford Council spokesperson said: “We are sorry to hear about Maureen’s fall and we hope that she is on the road to recovery.
"After the initial report we inspected the area and instructed works to be carried out.
"We have since re-inspected the area and agree that this hasn’t been done to a satisfactory standard.
"Work will be carried out in the next seven days to rectify the issue.”
