YORKSHIRE Water has issued a statement after concerns were raised over discoloration of the River Aire in the Bradford district.
A member of the public contacted the Telegraph & Argus after filming a discoloured stretch of the river near Shipley last Tuesday.
The member of the public questioned what had caused the discolouration.
Yorkshire Water said it believed the discolouration was "most likely a result of debris from the surface water sewer" - and not caused by a sewage discharge.
A Yorkshire Water spokesperson said: "The storm overflows that discharge into this outfall were not operating whilst or immediately before this picture was taken.
"We have investigated and believe that the discoloration visible is most likely a result of debris from the surface water sewer, which transfers rainfall to the watercourse."
