AN art teacher has showcased her impressive drawings celebrating pubs in the Bradford district.

Since March, Abbey Aaron has produced more than 30 pictures of various different local establishments on her iPad.

They include The Fox at Shipley, The Corn Dolly in Bradford city centre and The Beehive in Saltaire.

Abbey, of Shipley, said she wanted to help promote the area's watering holes in these difficult economic times.

The 28-year-old told the Telegraph & Argus: "I'm a secondary school art teacher and outside the classroom I love creating artwork - I find it really therapeutic.

"I recently moved to Shipley with my boyfriend and we love visiting independent pubs locally - we're so lucky to live in an area with such a variety of fantastic places.

"I decided to merge those two passions together - so back in March I started drawing these brilliant venues.

"I've drawn more than 30 now and it's something I intend to carry on doing.

"I really enjoy doing this in my spare time - it's a great way to unwind and relax."

Abbey said it was important to her to support pubs - by visiting them and also drawing them.

Last month, data gathered from UK Government figures by real estate specialists Altus Group showed that 239 English and Welsh pubs were either demolished or converted for other uses in the first quarter of 2024.

Abbey said: "These are difficult times for pubs and other business - so it's vital we all help them as much as we can.

"They need our support now more than ever."

Although Abbey creates the drawings for free, some of the pubs choose to sell prints of them, with money going towards helping her beloved dog Gus, a 10-year-old French Bulldog Pug Cross, who sadly has cancer.

Abbie said: "Around two months ago, Gus started growing a lump on his chest - unfortunately, the vet was pretty confident it was a mass cell tumour.

"He's just had surgery to have it removed - but if it comes back, he'll need further treatment.

"I put all the money aside from every sale of my pub drawings to help support Gus and cover his vet fees."
