A stalwart of football administration in Bradford has been rewarded for a remarkable lifetime of service.

Shadow Parvez has been handed an award to commemorate his 50 years within football, and for starting up several youth groups.

He was also the first known Asian scout in professional football, working as one under Chris Kamara while he was in charge of Bradford City during the 1990s.

The most notable organisation in Parvez’ life has been Sports Campaign Against Racism (SCAR), which he set up in 1999 alongside close friend Delroy Dacres.

SCAR is now run by former rugby league ace Ikram Butt, the Leeds-born winger becoming the first South Asian to play, in either code, for England in 1995.

Kick It Out’s Troy Townsend and FA diversity champion Anwar Uddin were in attendance for the presentation of the award for SCAR co-founder Parvez.

The veteran is still very much active in football, and currently holds a role as associate director at Northern Premier League East Division side Bradford (Park Avenue).

Parvez was also in attendance at the annual Bradford Summer Cup final last weekend, with Bradford Moor taking home the blue-riband Premiership trophy.

The trophy is contested by some of the top amateur sides in the district, and this year’s tournament brought its usual entertainment.

Moor were outstanding in the showpiece, beating Thackley 4-0 at Horsfall Stadium in last Sundays' final.

The Championship finale provided an excellent supporting act, with Red Lion and Prospect Reserves playing out a 3-3 draw, before the latter claimed the title with a 6-5 win in the subsequent penalty shoot-out.

Away from the on-field action, SCAR presented an award to Akif Khan, recognising his tireless work in organising the Summer Cup every year.
