A MOTHER and her son say they feel "let down" by police and claim "no investigation" took place after his new motorbike was stolen.

Apprentice civil engineer Cody Barry was left devastated after his £6,000 Honda CRF 300 Rally was taken from the locked garage at his home in Thackley earlier this month.

The 19-year-old quickly reported the crime to West Yorkshire Police - but he and his mum, Natasha, told the Telegraph & Argus they do not feel the force has properly investigated the offence.

West Yorkshire Police said enquiries were ongoing following the burglary.

Cody was preparing for work on July 17 when he discovered the garage had been broken into and his bike was gone.

Natasha, 48, said: "He'd only recently bought the bike after working hard and saving up for it.

"We reported the incident to West Yorkshire Police promptly - but within two hours, they closed the case saying they couldn't identify any suspects.

"There was no proper investigation - no checking of nearby CCTV or doorbell footage.

"We feel let down by the police - we're not happy with the response, or lack of a response, at all.

"We had a visit from a PCSO who left us with SmartWater pens - but we found this to be quite insulting.

"We don't want SmartWater pens, we want this crime investigating properly and those responsible brought to justice.

"It's just not good enough."

Natasha added: "Motorbike theft appears to be a low priority for West Yorkshire Police, but this must change - it affects a lot of people.

"The community needs to see a stronger police presence and more proactive measures to deter crimes like this.

"Residents of Bradford deserve to feel safe in their homes and on the streets - but at the moment, it feels like lawlessness is out of control."

Cody said he felt "infuriated" by the situation.

"I feel they're treating it as a minor crime but it's definitely not a minor crime to me," he added.

The T&A put the concerns to West Yorkshire Police.

In a brief response, a spokesperson for the force said: "We have recorded a crime of burglary at that location on July 17.

"Enquiries are ongoing."
