THE Bradford district is set for a display of regional pride as Yorkshire Day takes place tomorrow (Thursday, August 1) with festivities extending into the weekend as well.

On Thursday, Bradford City Hall's clock tower will shine in blue, white, and yellow, the colours of the Yorkshire flag.

The City Hall bells will ring the tune of On Ilkla Moor Baht‘at, the official Yorkshire anthem.

Bradford Industrial Museum will host the Great Yorkshire Day Time Machine between 11am and 3pm, in which visitors can step back in time through the history of the region from Romans and Vikings to Victorians and industrialists.

Other activities on offer at the museum will include clay face making, street games, face painting, and shield-crafting for a Viking longboat.

Irene Lofthouse will recount the history of Yorkshire, while the annual Yorkshire Hat Throwing Championships will also take place.

There will be a proclamation of the Yorkshire Declaration, and visitors are encouraged to dress up.

The Yorkshire Declaration will also be proclaimed in Ilkley at the Station Plaza between 11.30am and 12pm.

Meanwhile, Keighley Town Council will offer free activities including inflatables, sports and play equipment, and donkey rides.

In Baildon, walkers can meet at 10.30am at the Baildon Potted Meat Stick for a walk culminating at 12pm with a proclamation of the Yorkshire Declaration.

On Saturday, August 3, Keighley will host the Yorkshire Dialect Society at Keighley Local Studies Library at 2pm and 4pm, which will include dialect readings and recitals.

Baildon will also host a series of activities on Saturday from 10am to 6pm.

These include clog dancing, dry stone walling demonstrations, music, and craft stalls, as well as Yorkshire dialect readings, an open mic poetry session, a baking competition, and the opportunity for children to make White Rose flags at Baildon Library.

Baildon's Saturday fun will continue into the evening, with ticketed events including a ceilidh and a quiz.

Running enthusiasts can participate in a Yorkshire Day parkrun at Saltaire's Roberts Park, also on Saturday.

The official Yorkshire Day Civic Celebration on Thursday, which involves a street parade of all of Yorkshire's mayors, changes host area each year, and next year will be the turn of Bradford and Ilkley.
