CREWS across West Yorkshire are to work until dusk to deal with a major moorland fire.
Firefighters are at the scene of the blaze, off Wessendenhead Road in Meltham.
The public are being asked to avoid the area for the foreseeable future as crews continue their work.
Firefighters were using beaters and a water relay to tackle the situation.
Specialist wildfire resources were in attendance, along with 10 additional pumps and support appliances.
The crews that were in attendance are Huddersfield, Halifax, Skelmanthorpe, Slaithwaite, Mirfield, Cleckheaton, Dewsbury, Ossett, and Meltham.
This has since been scaled back after the fire reduced down in size "significantly".
A spokesperson from West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service said: "Crews remain at the scene tackling the fire.
"The fire has been split into sectors as we continue to bring the situation to a close.
"This is a 4km fire front. Crews are using beaters and a water relay to tackle the situation."
An update at 4pm added: "The fire has been reduced down in size significantly, but operations to make the scene safe remain underway.
"They will be working until dusk to make sure there are no hot spots that could ignite again.
"The public are being asked to avoid the area for the foreseeable future as crews continue their work."
Another update at 6.30pm said: "Seven crews and support teams remain working at the scene, damping down the area."
