BRADFORD motorists heading west along the M62 are being warned about disruptions due to a multi-million-pound rebuild of Castleton bridge, near Rochdale.

The M62 will be shut eastbound between J18 and J20, and westbound between J19 and J20, from 9pm on Friday, September 6 to 6am on Monday, September 9, and also from 9pm on Friday, September 20 to 6am on Monday, September 23.

Nightly closures between J19 and J20 will also occur from Monday, September 9 until Friday, September 20, from 9pm to 6am.

In addition to the full closure, the motorway will be reduced to three lanes between July 28 and October 18.

The railway will be closed from September 6 until early in the morning of September 25 between Manchester Victoria and Rochdale.

Rail replacement buses will be in operation.

More than £22m is being invested by Network Rail as part of the bridge replacement.

In recent weeks, two 42 metre, 70 tonne steel beams were transported to the work site during an overnight closure.

Network Rail sponsor Olivia Boland said: "The replacement of Castleton bridge is essential for the safe running of our railway."

Castleton bridge carries six per cent of the UK's energy supply across the country, as freight trains transport material to and from Drax power station in Selby.
