A SECTION of a newly pedestrianised city centre street has been opened up this week.

Bank Street is one of several roads in Bradford City Centre that is being pedestrianised as part of the Government funded Transforming Cities Fund work.

Work began in April, and for much of that time a large section of the street has been fenced off while the road is replaced by paving.

On Friday a large area of the street was opened to pedestrians – offering a glimpse at how much of the city centre might look once work is completed later this year.

Other work this week has included further work around the planters being installed on Market Street and Hall Ings.

And former tram tracks that have been discovered while Bridge Street is being dug up and have been collected for future restoration.

A spokesman for Bradford Council said: “Work is ongoing between Bradford Council and Balfour Beatty to explore ways in which the tracks can be best preserved, and possibly integrated into the new pedestrian paved areas.”
