A WELL-RECOGNISED UK business is hoping a bright future is in-store as its expansion continues.

Bradford-based Seabrooks Crisps was named Manufacture of the Year, sponsored by Thorite, over the likes of Tiffin Sandwiches and Mansfield Pollard at the event, hosted by Cedar Court Hotel.

One of Bradford’s most famous names began life has a chippy sideline nearly 80 years ago.

Did you know the iconic brand name only came about by accident?

Founder, Charles Brook, made a photograph development order but it was mislabelled as Seabrook instead of C Brook.

Now it is the UK’s number two crisp brand and is on track to reach annual retail sales of £100 million by the end of 2024.

Speaking to Telegraph & Argus reporter Rowan Newman after gaining the award, Chris Rees, operations director, and David Tickner, finance director, said: “We are a well-recognised brand that continues to grow throughout the UK.

“There are phenomenal results for us as a business at the moment so it is great to get that recognition.”

Seabrook was acquired by global snack manufacturer Calbee Inc in 2018 and work is expected to be completed on the £12 million expansion of its manufacturing facility in Duncombe Street later this year.

The pair were keen to emphasise the additional capacity the expansion will bring to the ever-growing company.

They added: “The future is bright.

“There is continued expansion which means more employed within the business. It is going really well.

“As part of the exciting growth plans, the new building is going to give us boosted production by another 40 per cent on what we already have.

“That is a direct response to the reaction we are seeing from the consumer.

“Seabrooks has got a fantastic history but we hope the future is going to be even stronger.”
