THE sight of a huge giant peering into Bradford’s City Park means that this year’s BD: Festival is about to begin.

The two day event will feature performances, parades and art installations across Bradford city centre.

One of the installations is Rombald the Giant – an inflatable version of the mythical behemoth who is said to be responsible for creating the Cow and Calf rock formation in Ilkley.

The sculpture, by Designs in the Air will overlook a number of events starting on Friday and running through Saturday.

There will be large scale performances such as circus style show Perceptions by Compagnie Bivouac and (suma) by Sound De Seca, an experience that combines percussion, choreography and music.

There will be travelling performers, drumming from Punjabi Roots and Taroo – a performance mixing parkour with stunts and dance.

There will be storytelling on the Bradford Stories Bus and a performance looking at the history of tea.

City Library will host performances of Queenie and the Pooka, a tale of a traveller girl and a shape shifting creature.

Drinking St George’s Hall takes place on Saturday between 11am and 4pm and recalls the numerous acts the venue has hosted in its long history through specially brewed drinks created by Edible Archives.

On Tyrell Street and Bank Street there will be wandering performers, as well as a parade titles Smoosh! featuring musicians, dancers and local performers.

Broadway will also feature performers and an interactive event Public Trust that examines the promises we make.
