The clinical negligence team at Morrish Solicitors has retained its Legal Aid franchise for 2024-25. The law firm is one of only a few which can offer Legal Aid funding for eligible claims for some of the most severe negligence cases. Morrish has held a franchise for over 10 years, which involves a vigorous annual assessment by the Legal Aid Agency.
Legal Aid franchises are only awarded to specialist law firms which are experts in their field. Head of the clinical negligence team and partner Anna Sari, and associate solicitor Oonagh McCurry, are both accredited members of the Law Society’s clinical negligence panel.
Sari said of the news:
"The team and I are incredibly proud of retaining our Legal Aid franchise. The assessment process is extremely demanding, and this achievement demonstrates our experience and expertise in handling complex clinical negligence cases."
Eligible claims can include those where a child has suffered a severe brain injury during pregnancy, childbirth or shortly afterwards. Notable cases handled by Morrish Solicitors include that of Sebastian Lowes, who was starved of oxygen for 17 minutes at birth at Bradford Royal Infirmary.
Sari continued:
"Sebastian’s case was one of the most complex I’ve worked on. His family was able to pursue the claim thanks to our ability to offer Legal Aid funding. The outcome of the case has had a massive positive impact on both his and his family’s quality of life and offered them some security for the future."
Lowes’ case settled after seven years for £4.2 million, which included annual payments to ensure ongoing care and therapy for Sebastian for life. Lowes’ family recently were able to move into a specially adapted home which will give them the ability to offer him the best care possible.
Sari concluded:
"We are committed to ensuring clients in Bradford and beyond can access justice in cases of negligent medical treatment. We offer a free initial consultation to discuss the details of a potential case and assess whether we can offer Legal Aid funding."
