A MAN caught driving at more than a hundred miles per hour on the A55 was on his way to a job interview, a court heard.

Charles Slack, of Clumber Drive, in Gomersal, Cleckheaton, appeared at Wrexham Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

The 39-year-old had previously admitted speeding and driving without insurance.

Shaun Bartlett-Evans, prosecuting, told the court that police stopped Slack driving his BMW M3 on the A55 at Caerwys on the afternoon of February 28 this year.

He'd been clocked driving at 105mph and when checks were carried out, it was discovered he had no insurance.

In mitigation, the court heard Slack was "very sorry" for the offences.

The speeding, the court heard, had been a "momentary error of judgement" after overtaking another vehicle.

And the Magistrates were asked to take into account that the defendant had made a "genuine mistake" with regards to his insurance - believing the policy he had covered him to drive the BMW, which belonged to his father.

But it didn't.

Slack "bitterly regrets" the error, the court was told, and is "determined to make sure this doesn't happen again."

It was said that on the day in question, he was on his way to a job interview.

The court handed down a fine of £120 on each of the two offences and ordered Slack to pay £110 costs, as well as a £96 victim surcharge.

He received six penalty points.
