THE Council’s community safety chief has issued a stern warning to danger drivers stating their actions will not be tolerated after Bradford featured prominently in a list naming and shaming licence point hotspots in the UK.

On Monday, the Telegraph & Argus reported seven of Great Britain's 10 worst postcode areas for drivers having penalty points are in West Yorkshire.

And two of those areas are located in inner-city Bradford, according to a study conducted by accident compensation experts Claims.co.uk.

The research examined GOV.UK data on the number of drivers with penalty points on their licence in each Great British postcode area as of May 2024.

BD3 was named the third most dangerous hotspot in Great Britain.

Within the area, which includes Leeds Road, 12.56 per cent of all licensed drivers have points, which is 81 per cent above the average in Great Britain.

In total, this is 1,775 out of all licensed drivers, recorded to be 14,135 as of May 2024.

BD8, which is home to Toller Lane, was in ninth place with 12.10 per cent of all licensed drivers have points.

Councillor Kamran Hussain, Bradford Council’s Executive Member for Community Safety and Neighbourhoods and Ward Councillor, said road safety is a "top priority" for the council.

He highlighted the council's "strong history" of working with partners to make the roads safer.

Operation Steerside, a Public Space Protection Order (PSPO), Operation Snap, and Vision Zero were all mentioned as ways to achieve this.

Cllr Hussain said: “This is an issue which concerns many of our residents.

"Obviously I am very disappointed to see BD8 and BD3 in the top 10 worst areas.

“Road safety is a top priority and we are constantly looking at ways to prevent dangerous driving and ensure the safety of our residents."

He added: "We will continue to seek out areas of high risk in Bradford and use all available resources both in the council and our partner agencies to remove death and serious injury on Bradford’s network.

“Our message is clear - anyone who drives at excessive speed, uses a mobile device whilst driving, drives in an anti-social, careless or dangerous manner is highly likely to either have their vehicle seized, be fined, or receive penalty points.

"We would urge anyone who has information on dangerous driving in their area, or footage to contact the police via 101.”
