A MOTORWAY was closed with a huge emergency services presence on the scene this afternoon.
The M1 was shut in both directions between junction 40 (Wakefield) and junction 41 (Tingley), due to a "police-led incident".
A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said officers were called to a "concern for safety report".
In a post on X, the force said: "A concern for safety call earlier on the M1 at junction 40 has come to a safe conclusion.
"Roads are starting to reopen around the area."
A closure was put in place just before 1.40pm.
In an update at 3.41pm, National Highways said: "The M1 has re-opened in both directions between J40 Wakefield and J41 Tingley following a police led incident.
"Thank you for your patience, please have a safe onward journey."
A motorist caught in the earlier congestion said he saw three or four ambulances pass by, as well as lots of police.
