HERE'S a picture from a Telegraph & Argus article from January 1963, which appeared alongside the headline 'Mills may be bought for college use.'
It reports that two former textile mills, between Bradford Technical College and Thornton Road, are likely to be acquired by Bradford Education Committee for extensions to the college. 'They are Junction Mills and Garden Mills, at present only partly tenanted,' it said.
The article states that the City Engineer Mr SG Wardly negotiated a price well below the district valuer's figure. 'f the mills are bought , one of the departments of the Regional College of Art could be housed there' among other activities, said the report.
It states that the mills are on a site of two-thirds of an acre, with 3,759 square years of floor space.
In light of this the committee decided drop exisitng proposals to adapt premises in Drewton Street for the college of art.
