A RESIDENT has spoken of how a clean-up day will “brighten up” a Bradford community.

Teams from housing provider Incommunities came together to litter pick, plant flowers, clean graffiti, as well as cut the grass and hedges on Woodroyd Road in West Bowling on Wednesday.

There was support from West Yorkshire Police, Bradford Council, and Accent Housing, which also joined the day of action as it also has homes in the area.

Residents came out and joined in with the litter picking and planting.

Dawn Brown, who lives on Woodroyd Road and got involved in the planting, said: “In the past we’d tried to do some planting ourselves because it makes the area look much nicer, so we’re really pleased that Incommunities and the rest of the organisations came along and helped us to brighten up the area.

“It just shows us that people care and our area is valued – it makes such a positive difference.”

It came as Incommunities announced a series of 'days of action' to help clean-up areas across the Bradford district.

The action days will see the social housing provider team up with residents, the council, and the police to undertake activities like litter picking, painting, and planting shrubs.

Three more clean-ups will take place in Bradford, two more will be held in Keighley and one will be held in Huddersfield over the next three months.

Everyone is welcome to join and will be equipped with litter pickers, bags, and gloves.

Lindsey Roche, head of neighbourhood management at Incommunities, said: "Incommunities is committed to creating a better living environment for all our customers and these days target issues they have raised.

“We’ve organised days like this before and had a great response. They’re a real opportunity for us to come together and make a tangible difference in our neighbourhoods.”
