A BAR in one of Bradford’s hottest spots is “going from strength to strength” as the owners celebrate its one-year anniversary.
The Brass Owl, on North Parade officially opened on July 22 last year, after a soft launch for family and friends the night before, taking the place of Plonk.
A renovation and refit of the premises was completed just in time for the newest bar on the block to invite people in for the top-of-town street’s “Welcome Back Bash”.
Owners, Jamie Hill and Laura Wigglesworth – known as Lau – were “chomping at the bit” to get started and are now thanking everyone for the past year with a three-day weekender charity event that begins today.
They said: "We’ve had such amazing support since we opened our doors.
“From our friends and family, to customers both old and new - many of whom have very quickly become our regulars.
“And it goes without saying that, we couldn’t have got through this year without the most fantastic bunch of neighbours, fellow businesses and friends.
“We are lucky to be part of such an amazing little community.
“And we wanted to take the chance to pay it forward, so we’ll be raising funds throughout the whole weekend for The Brain Charity, a cause very close to the bar’s heart.”
The bar will be hosting a ‘pick your vibe’ weekender.
On Friday, the popular Bass Owl – a grassroots dubstep night in collaboration with Dis-Funktional Sounds – will return, with a lineup of seven DJs.
There will be live music from Red Shakes on Saturday, followed by an Indie House Party until late.
Then Sunday is a party day for everyone young and old.
The bar will open at midday with a cheesy old-school disco, glitter tattoos, stilt walking, fire shows, and food from neighbours The Peacock Bar.
Lau and Jamie said: “Feedback from our customers is that we are a really lovely, cosy little bar, with welcoming and friendly vibes. And we couldn’t be prouder of that.
“We were insistent that the bar took its own vibe organically when we opened, and it has definitely blossomed into a little melting pot of everyone’s favourite things, where people feel comfortable and safe enough to be their best selves.”
The entire weekend is free entry and everyone is welcome, with no dress code.
Jamie said: “There’s no denying it’s been a tough year all around for everyone.
“But thanks to our fantastic customers we’re going from strength to strength – we even won Best Bar this year.
“Sure, some things have taken longer to get in place than we’d ideally like, but we’re still here – gearing up for the start of the football season and we’ve got some really exciting things planned in for this coming year, we can’t wait!”
