A NEW industrial estate can be built on a former laundry site after the developer and Bradford Council reached a compromise on opening hours.

Plans to build 10 industrial units on the former Bowling Park Laundry site on Bowling Hall Road were submitted late last year.

The plans by Noor Mohammed said the new estate would target “locally based businesses who require a prime location.”

The plans divided opinion, with Bradford Council receiving 39 letters in support of the plans and 15 objections.

Objectors raised concerns about traffic and noise.

One of the letters of support pointed out that the developer will pay taxes.

Referring to support comments, planning officers said: “It should be noted that the support comments do not appear to live close to the application site and in some cases only street names have been provided.”

Another concern was the proposed opening hours of 8am to 8pm.

After discussions with the Council, the applicant has agreed to a condition limiting operating hours to between 8am and 6pm.

Approving the scheme, planners said: “Planning policy seeks to encourage a more entrepreneurial Bradford District, with the aim of achieving higher rates of business start-ups and survival, and a larger number of small businesses, including the provision of low cost and smaller incubator units for small and medium sized enterprises and micro businesses in the city.”
