A BRADFORD headteacher who has made a "significant difference to children's lives" is retiring after 40 years.

An emotional farewell event was held to honour the extraordinary career of Juliet Wright,  who is the long-standing head of Bankfoot Primary School, on Bolingbroke Street.

Mrs Wright, who has been at the helm of Bankfoot for 21 years, leaves behind a legacy of excellence.

Back in 2019, she was awarded an OBE for her services to education and for transforming the school into one of the highest-performing in the region.

Mrs Wright’s journey in education began over four decades ago. With a passion for nurturing young minds and a vision of inclusive, high-quality education, she dedicated her life to teaching.

It was also in 2019 that Mrs Wright was nominated for the prestigious Bradford Telegraph and Argus School Awards in the leadership category.

The nomination recognised her exemplary leadership qualities, dedication, and significant contributions to the school’s achievements.

Under her guidance, Bankfoot Primary School not only achieved an 'outstanding' rating from Ofsted but also became a beacon of educational excellence in Bradford, making her a standout candidate for the accolade.

Colleagues, parents, and students alike describe Mrs Wright as an inspirational figure.

“Mrs Wright has been more than a headteacher; she’s been a mentor and a friend,” said Munir Irfan, deputy headteacher.

“Her dedication to the school and her innovative approaches to teaching have left an indelible mark on all of us.”

Parents have echoed these sentiments, expressing gratitude for her unwavering commitment to their children's education.

“Mrs Wright’s leadership has made a significant difference in our children's lives,” said Fatima Ayub.

“She has created a nurturing environment where every child is valued and encouraged to reach their full potential.”

Mrs Wright’s influence extends beyond the school. She has been actively involved in community initiatives, fostering strong links between the school and local organisations.

Sameena Hussain, HR manager at Bankfoot Primary School, added: “Her efforts have ensured that Bankfoot Primary School is not just an educational institution, but a cornerstone of the community.

“As Mrs Wright embarks on her well-deserved retirement, the entire school community wishes her joy and fulfilment in her future endeavours.

“Her legacy at Bankfoot Primary School will continue to inspire students, staff, and the broader community for many years to come.”

Mrs Wright's last day at the school is next Tuesday, July 23.
