A BRADFORD food manufacturer has purchased an eight-acre green oasis to protect it for future generations.
Tiffin Sandwiches, which is based on the Euroway Trading Estate, on Commondale Way, off the M606, bought the “tranquil woodland” that is adjacent to its factory premises.
Luke Tetley, operations manager at Tiffin, said the firm was delighted at the purchase.
"We are not only preserving the green space for our employees and the local community, but also taking a step towards promoting biodiversity and environmental conservation," he said.
“Our partnership with Low Moor and Oakenshaw Conservation Group, and consultation with Natural England and Bradford Council ensures that we are implementing sustainable practices to enhance the natural habitat of the area.
“The benefits of this purchase extend beyond just environmental conservation.
"The woodland provides a tranquil and peaceful setting for our colleagues and the local community, offering them a space to relax and unwind.
“The increased green space will also have a positive impact on air quality and contribute to a healthier environment for all."
Martyn Priestley, of the Low Moor and Oakenshaw Conservation Group, said: “This is brilliant news as the company is not only going to protect our biodiversity but once a management plan is set up with additional specialised planting, even more species will be attracted to the site."
He said the site is next to Toad Holes Beck, where an "array of wildlife" including bats and 21 different species of butterfly have been recorded over a 40-year period.
Mr Tetley also took the T&A on a tour of the site this week.
“This is the new land we just bought,” said Mr Tetley. “We like to call it Tiffin’s Oasis.
“You wouldn’t believe something like this in the middle of a high built-up area.
“The plans for the future are very simple. We want to maintain and protect the biodiversity at this site.
“We’re very fortunate to have a green space like this in the middle of a trading estate.
“We want to keep it how it is, but we want to tidy it, make it better."
